In the final US Open appearance of her career, Serena Williams is off to a hot start with two straight wins to begin the tournament. She first defeated Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, followed by Anett Kontaveit of Estonia.
The six-time US Open Champion is looking to continue her hot start to the tournament on Thursday (September 1) as she and her sister Venus will compete in the first round of the Women’s Doubles competition. The Williams sisters will face off against Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecka.
On Friday (August 26), Williams competes in the third round of the Women’s Singles against Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia. The Tennis legend will look to continue her winning streak in New York as the US Open is taking place in Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York.
Following her excellent performances against Kovinic and Kontaveit, many NBA stars took to social media to show their support and appreciation for one of the all-time greats.
