Internationally-known superstar Shakira was full-on winning at the 2023 MTV VMAs (Sept. 12), as the Colombian-born icon took home the heavily coveted Video Vanguard Award while also putting on a tremendous performance, which included many of her hit songs.
Shakira was introduced to the stage by her “Hips Don’t Like” co-musician Wyclef Jean, who said her name in his iconic voice. Shakira lit up the stage and received positive praise with her incredible dancing and powerhouse pipes.
Shakira joins a list of absolute legends who have been honored with the Video Vanguard Award. The long-running list includes “The King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye West, and fellow Latina superstar Jennifer Lopez, to name a few.
Someone who was very much noticed throughout Shakira’s performance was Taylor Swift, who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the performance. Swift was also captured jamming out to Demi Lovato’s incredible performance.

Regarding Shakira’s career, she has sold over 95 million records and earned three Grammy Awards and twelve Latin Grammy Awards. The career of this beloved artist is historic, and there is no end in sight.
