Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have officially called it quits.
The pair, who dated for over two years, took to Instagram today (November 17) to share the shocking news, but will “continue to be best friends.”
“Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but out love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” reads a joint statement that was posted to both Mendes’ and Cabello’s Instagram Stories. “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
Fans of Shawnmila know that the pair first met in 2014 when Shawn and Camila’s then-group Fifth Harmony opened up for Austin Mahone on his massive headlining tour (that also featured The Vamps). The dating rumors started to swirl after the released their first duet, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” in November 2015 — followed by 2019’s “Señorita” — which received a Grammy nomination for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” and won an American Music Award for “Collaboration of the Year.”
Never confirming or denying the dating rumors, fans got their first taste of the pair being an item when they were spotted walking and holding hands in West Hollywood upon the release of “Señorita” in 2019. They then confirmed their relationship by posting that ~awkward~ kiss on social media, with the rest being documented on the red carpet, on television and on social media. The duo also quarantined in Cabello’s hometown of Miami during the Coronavirus pandemic, which Mendes said at the time brought them closer together. Late last year, the couple adopted a dog named Tarzan, who Shawn brought home to Canada when he went home for the holidays with Camila that year.

In between getting over the breakup, Camila is busy in the recording studio finishing up her third-studio album Familia, while Shawn is preparing for his massive Wonder: The World Tour that kicks off in March of 2022.
