Starter Teams Up with National Hockey League For Limited-Edition Black Ice Collection

Representing your favorite NHL team just got that more stylish.

The National Hockey League has officially teamed up with Starter — one of the most iconic, innovative and authentic sports apparel companies in the world — for a limited edition “The Black Ice Collection” that features style staples like outerwear, fleece, tees and headwear.

“Fans are going to love this drop,” said Carl Banks, President of G-III Sports Apparel Group, as the League mentions that it “fuses the unmistakable style of Starter and the passion of hockey into an unforgettable collaboration” in a press release.

Inspired by the passion and energy of youth hockey played in the streets parks and even frozen lakes, both brands thought it was only right to pay homage to the sense of inclusivity and community  of the game by making all teams and styles rooted from “Black Ice.”

“It’s all about authenticity for us in the NHL. Continuing to try and grow the game, you want to do that authentically, and I think that [Starter] is the right brand for [us] to work with,” former NHL All-Star and current ESPN analyst P.K. Subban tells Celeb Secrets exclusively at the event.

With items ranging from $38-$180, the rare and limited collection release is a must-have for fans. With options for anyone’s style, the “Black Ice Collection” even incorporates some of Starter’s most iconic pieces including 90s silhouettes like the Iconic Bronx Bubble and Breakaway, crafted from high-quality classic Starter materials to ensure authenticity and durability to stand the test of time.

Yesterday (November 29), both brands hosted a launch party at the League’s flagship store, NHL Shop NYC at Manhattan West Plaza to celebrate the one-of-a-kind collection with fans, VIPs like Sopranos star Steve Schirripa, Sony artist Bandit The Rapper, comedian ItsBizkit, music exec Steve Lobel, media and more. Hosted by ESPN’s lead play-by-play Rangers announcer, Don La Greca, former NHL All-Star and current ESPN analyst P.K. Subban, guests in attendance enjoyed light bites and premium sips while browsing through the new collection. It also served as the ultimate pre-game activity that evening, as DJ Rita got the room pumped up for the New York Rangers vs. Detroit Red Wings game at Madison Square Garden later in the evening.

“Anybody that’s a fan of sports merchandising knows that authentically it all starts with Starter,”  Subban tells Celeb Secrets.

“I’m a huge Dallas Cowboys fan; I’ve got a Starter x Dallas Cowboys jacket that I always wear every Sunday, and it’s so important to me. I think that’s what is so amazing about the brand is that it ties us back to our childhood days of when we started loving sports. For me, it was when I started playing sports, but I was always a fan. So everyone’s a fan and anyone that’s a fan loves Starter, so to see NHL be able to collaborate with such an enriched brand with a rich sports history background is amazing,” he adds.
