Spooky szn is officially upon us, meaning it’s officially time for all things pumpkin spice and Halloween! To get us into the holiday spirit, Disney Channel is kicking off October with a reimagined version of their DCOM Under Wraps, and we’re getting the scoop on what to expect from it straight from the cast.
Putting a contemporary comedic twist on the first-ever DCOM and 1997 classic, the film follows three 12-year-old friends, Gilbert (played by Sydney to the Max‘s Christian J. Simon), Marshall (played by Malachi Barton) and Amy (played by Sophia Hammons), as they happen upon and awaken a mummy, which they affectionately name Harold (played by Phil Wright), and must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween. Along the way, the team narrowly escapes a nefarious group of criminals intent on selling the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold is inevitably captured, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy must band together to stand up to the criminals, face their fears and rescue their new—but rather “ancient”—friend.
“It feels really great to be a part of Disney channel history. I hope that the people who were fans of the original will also be fans of this newer version,” Sophia tells Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder over Zoom, with Phil adding, “there were a lot of expectations because this was first movie that Disney Channel had created. So it was like, ‘okay, we got some big shoes to fill,’ but I think we did a great job.”
