The First “Wicked” Movie Is Flying Into Theaters Thanksgiving 2024

Arianators, good news: Jon M. Chu’s Wicked adaptation will hit theaters a month earlier than anticipated. The director announced the unexpected news early Tuesday (March 14) morning.

“Deep into shooting WICKED here in London,” said Chu on Instagram. “Bring the family, bring your friends…it’s going to be a ride!!! appreciate all your support through this long production process. Shooting two movies at once is no small feat.”

It was originally planned for the film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical to open in theaters on Christmas Day of next year, starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (Dec. 25, 2024). In the spirit of giving gratitude, Wicked Part 1 will now be released one month earlier, on Thanksgiving Day 2024.

According to sources reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s initial release date was apparently moved up to “build an audience over the year-end holidays,” while also remaining “beneficial from a consumer products standpoint.”

Which seems to be creating that effect already within the comment section from other high profile entertainers and fans.

“Had something that day but clearing my schedule” said Matt Bernstein.  “🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️can’t wait for this !! We got a date !!” added Jennifer Coolidge.

The cast of the movie also includes Michelle Yeoh, Keala Settle, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Bowen Yang, and Ethan Slater. Yeoh, who just took home the Oscar for best actress on Sunday, March 12 said earlier this year that she was “really looking forward” to working with Grande and Erivo on set. “Those two are so adorable, so gorgeous, so talented.”
