If you’re looking for a new flick to watch today (March 25) that perfectly blends the nostalgia of cheerleading movies with the thrill of a mystery, stop what you’re doing right now and grab your girlfriends to watch Deadly Cheer Mom.
“I actually was not a cheerleader in high school, however, I was a cheerleader when I was much younger,” Tommi Rose, who plays Beth in the film, told Celeb Secrets reporter Juliet Schroder in an exclusive interview. “I did watch like a million cheerleading movies before getting casted… I have close friends who were cheerleaders and I asked them as much as I possibly could about the sport before filming.”
In Deadly Cheer Mom, high school cheerleading captain, Beth (played by Rose), has her world turned upside down when salacious videos of her smoking and drinking circulate around the school resulting in her being kicked off the squad. Beth insists the videos are fake, but nobody believes her. To get her life back on track, Beth must catch the culprit behind the videos and prove her innocence. As she delves into her own investigation, all signs point to the person she least suspected.
“Expect the unexpected,” Tommi says of the flick. “I’m trying so hard to say this in a way that doesn’t give away too much, but watch for the eyes. I feel like the eyes are such a good way to really figure our what’s going on [and the culprit is].”
Aside from cheers, competitiveness and thrills, Deadly Cheer Mom also shines light on the harsh reality of cyberbullying that high schoolers like Beth experience while growing up.
“It’s okay to not be okay with the fact that somebody is being unkind, and it’s so important to find people who love you, care about you and talk to them. I am such a big advocate for speaking up when you’re young and going through something like [bullying] where we all naturally want everyone to like us. As human beings, that is how we are, you know? So even if I tell you to be strong and hold your head up, it’s not as easy as it sounds.”
Celeb Secrets sat down with Tommi to learn more about Deadly Cheer Mom, what fans can expect from the film and what it was like to really film behind-the-scenes. She also talks about the huge cliffhanger at the end of the flick, sharing her thoughts on her dream sequel.
