Led by first-year head coach Mike McDaniel, the Miami Dolphins pulled off a historic comeback for the ages. The Dolphins offense exploded, and their defense made key stops in the fourth and final quarter of their week two victory over the Lamar Jackson-led Baltimore Ravens.
The Dolphins started the fourth quarter with the ball while down 35-14. That first drive of the final period of regulation ended with a touchdown pass from third-year QB Tua Tagovailoa to newly acquired receiver River Cracroft and the Dolphins offense never looked back as they would go on to score three more times in the quarter, including twice on passes from Tagovailoa to newly acquired superstar Tyreek Hill and the game-winning touchdown going from Tagovailoa to the all-time NFL rookie receptions leader, Jaylen Waddle.

Tagovailoa would end the contest becoming just the third Dolphins quarterback to throw six touchdowns in a game; joining Super Bowl Champion Bob Griese and Hall of Fame QB, number 13 himself, Dan Marino. Tagovailoa added 469 yards through the air to go along with his six touchdowns. Wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle also had historic outings for Miami as they became the first wide receiver teammates to have at least 150 yards receiving, ten or more receptions, and two or more touchdowns in a game in NFL history.
The most consistent performance from the Dolphins offense in their 42-38 victory came from their offensive line; the group led by newly acquired All-Pro left tackle Terron Armstead did an impeccable job from start to finish even without starting right tackle Austin Jackson, who was recently placed on injured reserve; veteran Greg Little did a fantastic job filling in for the injured Jackson.
The Dolphins defense would also play their best in the final quarter by allowing only three points from the explosive Ravens offense and multiple stops, including a fourth down stop against Baltimore. Some key standouts in the game for Miami on the defensive side include four-year pro defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and veteran safety Eric Rowe who stepped up huge in his season debut, especially in that final quarter.
Super Bowl champion punter Thomas Morstead was very accurate in the punting department on his two punts, including pummeling one inside the 20-yard line.
As for Mike McDaniel and his staff, a tremendous job of regrouping and readjusting was done, but more importantly, McDaniel and crew were able to stay calm, which then was reflected in the play of their players as well as consistently instilling trust and confidence in their players regardless of how the game was going. For the team to pull off a comeback win of this magnitude speaks volumes of the faith, hard work, and family bond within the 2022 Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins will look to take this hot and historic start into their week three matchup as they host the Buffalo Bills at home in Miami Gardens at Hard Rock Stadium. Over the past three seasons, the Bills have been the “kryptonite” for Miami as the Dolphins have loss six straight to the Josh Allen-led squad.
As for the Ravens, they will look to bounce back on the road against the Patriots after a disappointing finish in week two.
