Tyler Van Dyke Throws Five Touchdowns in Hurricanes 48-33 Upset Win Over Texas A&M

There were many fun contests in week two of the 2023-24 College Football season, but arguably, the biggest upset came from the unranked Miami Hurricanes destroying the 23rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies 48-33.

Canes junior quarterback Tyler Van Dyke had a historic outing by ending the win with five touchdowns through the air, including three to fellow junior wideout Jacolby George.

The outcome of this game was not expected initially due to many Hurricanes blunders to begin the contest as Miami had a punt blocked within their own territory followed by a dropped punt by touchdown leader Jacolby George; with that said, the Aggies would capitalize, and jump out to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Miami then cut down on the mental miscues and got things rolling with a beautifully executed pass and catch from Van Dyke to the very talented Colbie Young. That first touchdown was just the beginning of an incredible output for Van Dyke and co as the Canes would take a 21-17 lead into halftime after Van Dyke threw two more TDs to end the half, including one to George, who was able to make up for the botched punt.

The Hurricanes offense would keep things rolling in the second half as Van Dyke connected with George for two more scores on the day, and a big boost of momentum was kickstarted on a 98-yard kick return touchdown by Brashard Smith to begin the second half of play. Miami’s defense was also able to bunker down in the second half and hold off the Aggies offense thanks largely to a stellar performance by former Oklahoma Sooners defensive back Jaden Davis; the redshirt senior transfer had a magnificent second game as a Cane.

All in all, this was a huge statement win for Miami, and much respect should be shown to Coach Mario Cristobal and the rest of the coaching staff. Cristobal picks up his first staple win in just his second game of his second season as head coach of The U.

Lastly, with a little over two minutes left of play, Canes All-American safety Kamren Kitchens was stretchered off of the field in a terrifying scene due to his inability to get up from the ground, but thankfully, he is recovering quickly, and signs point to no serious health concerns.

All in all, the Canes will look to keep things rolling on Thursday night as they play host to Bethune-Cookman. In contrast, Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies will look to regroup and bounce back at home on Saturday against Louisianna-Monroe.
