The Minnesota Vikings have been one of the most under-the-radar teams this season, despite being at the top of the league for the whole season. In week nine, Minnesota improved to 7-1 on the season in a 20-17 come-from-behind victory over the Washington Commanders.
Minnesota would start the game with a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson to take an early 7-0 lead.
However, the Vikings would not score again until the second half of the contest as the Commanders would score seventeen straight points to take a 17-7 lead; the two touchdowns in that Commanders scoring run came through the air from quarterback Taylor Heinicke who threw one to wideout Curtis Samuel and the other too fellow wideout Dax Milne.
The Vikings would finally start to turn things around following a field goal; a couple of plays later, all-pro safety Harrison Smith would pick off Heinicke and return it thirty-five yards to give Minnesota’s offense excellent field position; the turnover would lead to a touchdown to tie the game at seventeen on a twelve-yard pass from Cousins to all-pro running back Dalvin Cook.

The Vikings defense would step up once again by forcing a three and out; which would be followed by a six-minute drive by the Vikings offense in which kicker Greg Joseph would make a go-ahead field goal with twelve seconds left in the ballgame that would ultimately be the final straw in the contest as Minnesota’s defense would once again stop the Commanders offense to secure the 20-17 win and improve to 7-1 on the year.

The type of resilience shown by the Vikings in this one is an essential quality for teams wanting to contend for a deep playoff run. The Vikings are one of the league’s top teams and should be shown more respect.
Minnesota will look to keep this hot start alive in week ten as they fly to Buffalo to face off against Josh Allen and the Bills.
As for Washington, the disappointing season continues as they blew a ten-point lead in this one. The Commanders will look to bounce back in week ten on Monday Night Football against the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia.
