WandaVision’s Elizabeth Olsen Wanted To Change Her Last Name Because Of Her Sisters

Elizabeth Olsen revealed to Glamour UK that she almost dropped her famous last name because she didn’t want to be known as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister.

(Yes, she is in fact their baby sister. A lot of people were shocked by this news and thought their last names were just a coincidence).

The WandaVision star, 32, shared that when she was 10 years old she had seriously considered leaving behind her surname and just be known by her first and middle names, as Elizabeth Chase.

“I was 10 and I was curious about auditioning… and I realized very quickly it wasn’t for me because I was missing my sports teams, my dance class, and all the extracurricular activities at school. But during that time, I thought ‘I don’t want to be associated with [Mary-Kate and Ashley]’, for some reason,” Olsen said to Glamour in their April 2021 cover story.

“I guess I understood what nepotism was like inherently as a 10-year-old. I don’t know if I knew the word, but there is some sort of association of not earning something that I think bothered me at a very young age,” she also shared and admitted that it had a lot to do with her “own insecurities.”

Her sisters, who are now 34, were already famous because of their nearly 10-year run on the hit sitcom show, Full House, and had just moved on to starring in films like Passport to Paris and Our Lips Are Sealed.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that the actress eventually came to terms with her own insecurities and ended up keeping her last name, continuing her sisters’ acting legacy, who had given Olsen a great piece of advice, which has had a strong influence on her life, to this day.

“’No is a full sentence.’ The word ‘No’ specifically was something that I remember my sisters isolating and it becoming really empowering,” she stated. “And for women, it’s a really empowering word. People say ‘Just say no to drugs,’ but truly, you can just say no whenever the hell you want! It’s really a powerful thing.”

We can only imagine what other empowering advice Elizabeth has received from her sisters!
