The first look at Nicole Kidman starring as Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos is finally here, as the trailer for the biopic dropped earlier today (October 19).
Based upon the ground-breaking sitcom from the 50s, I Love Lucy, the movie follows both Ball and husband Desi Arnaz (played by Javier Bardem) and their Hollywood life, as threatening obstacles for their careers and marriage can forever alter where they lie in the industry. Viewers can expect to see the unique romantic and professional relationship between Arnaz and Ball while handling themselves on and off screen.
As revealed in the trailer, fans get a first look at Kidman’s comical portrayal of Lucy in the sitcom, replicating Lucy’s exact facial expressions while partaking in chaotic shenanigans. She even reenacts the iconic scene where she’s stepping on grapes to make wine while working at a vineyard!
In addition, the show gives viewers a glimpse into the writer’s room, the soundstage what it’s like to witness the couple during a critical week of filming their memorable TV show.
In addition to Kidman and Bardem, Tony Hale, J.K. Simmons and Linda Lavin round out the star-studded cast, with Academy Award-winning Aaron Sorkin serving as director and writer.
Beloved daughter of the couple, Lucie Arnaz has given her support for the upcoming movie, praising Kidman for “becoming [her] mother’s soul.”
“Nicole Kidman became my mother’s soul. She crawled into her head,” Arnez shared on Instagram last week. “I don’t know how you do that. She cared very deeply about this part. It shows.”
