WeWoreWhat — aka Danielle Bernstein — Was Not Greeted Well When Joining TikTok

Danielle Bernstein thought it’d be a good idea to join TikTok earlier this week (Feb. 24) and she’s received quite the welcoming-committee.

If you don’t know who Bernstein is she’s an influencer, fashion designer, and founder of fashion blog WeWoreWhat.

If that doesn’t ring a bell, you might have heard of the countless accusations she’s gotten of stealing designs from smaller businesses or maybe the time she cried after she found out she tested positive for COVID even though she was throwing and attending big parties in New York before she hopped over to the Hamptons to escape quarantine regulations.

TikTok is known to be a place where relatable and funny content is shared. Many small businesses, BIPOC creators, designers, and influencers also get the opportunity to post their content in hopes that they’ll go viral and build their brand.

So, many people on the platform are puzzled as to why Bernstein thought it’d be a good idea to not only join the app but also subtly brag about her success, that she may or may not owe to those she stole from, in her first video.

@weworewhathey TikTok, allow me to introduce myself 👋🏼 ##daniellebernstein ##weworewhat ##nyc ##brandstory ##fashion

As you can imagine, the comments on the said video are definitely letting her know that the TikTok community is aware of who she is and what she’s done to get there.

One video that’s taken off on the platform and introduced Bernstein to those who didn’t already know her, is from blogger Kelsey Kotzur, who made a compilation of the times Bernstein got inspiration from her outfit styling and post content though she never received credit from the WeWoreWhat founder for being her muse.

If that TikTok wasn’t enough, another content creator Sydney Kaplan shared an article from Business Insider about fashion professionals that used to work with Bernstein coming forward and discussing the times that Bernstein would have them create exact designs from smaller brands.

Content creators like Kotzur and Kaplan as well as small business owners share a lot of the same feelings towards Bernstein. She’s already established and built her brand, so if she were to give credit to those she gets inspiration from, she’d be able to help others gain recognition for their work.

“I hope that bigger creators see what has happened with my video and they are reminded of when they were first starting out,” Kotzur said to In The Know. “We all started somewhere. It’s so unfair to steal ideas/concepts from people with a smaller following simply because you can.”

What do you think about this whole situation? Is the backlash Bernstein is receiving necessary? Leave a reaction down below and let us know what you think on Twitter @celebsecrets.
