A Source Close to Ken Jeong Shares His Reaction After “The Masked Singer” Walk Out

FOX’s The Masked Singer is known to bring the most unexpected contestants but this one, in particular, created a never-seen-before reaction by the judges.

It is typically exciting or nerve-racking to know who might be under the costume, unveiling if the audience and judges guessed right based on the clues given by the masked contestant.

Apparently, in last week’s taping of the first episode in Season 7, the unmasked singer was Rudy Giuliani, the former attorney for President Donald Trump and Mayor of New York City. Although his costume has not been revealed yet, Deadline reports it became very controversial, leading Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke to exit the stage of the reality show in a form of protest but later returned to speak with the politician between a break.

This was the first occasion the judges left the show after a contestant was unmasked. The other judges, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy, waited onstage to speak with Giuliani at the time of the reveal.

A source close to Jeong told People he was “super upset” and “indeed stormed out.”

“Robin actually followed him because he and Ken are very close friends and he wanted to check on him. Robin didn’t storm out because of Giuliani.”

Another source revealed to People, “Ken felt disrespected and was livid to see Rudy was under the mask which is why he walked off. There’s no way he could hide his feelings.”

The insider also shared Jeong’s past career after attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his medical degree and practiced medicine for several years in Los Angeles. They also revealed Jeong’s political views are in opposition to Giuliani.

“Ken has been incredibly vocal about how the previous administration handled many things but especially COVID-19 and has found a lot of what they’ve said not only wrong but dangerous,” the insider tells People. “To get someone who helped to spread misinformation and call into question the accuracy of our election and democracy to appear on his show was going to set him off.”

According to Yahoo! News, it should have been a much-expected stunt mainly after the Republican politician, Sarah Palin appeared in last year’s third season as The Bear. It has also become something the co-executive producer of the show, Deena Katz enjoys doing when it comes to finding new cast members. Conservative contestants are seen more than liberal ones when it comes to politics, but more red states seem to appear in reality shows such as this competitive one. This works out great for networks since it attracts a larger audience leading to higher ratings. Just like in this case, it isn’t always welcomed by the judges or the audience.

The actor, writer, producer, and director, Jon Cryer was amongst the celebrities to speak about Giuliani’s appearance on the show. In a tweet, he said, “This is an incredibly disturbing stunt. Rudy Giuliani helped to engineer a coup attempt.” He added, “The producers of this show should be ashamed.”

Season 7 is set to air on March 9 through the FOX network and we have yet to see who else will be a contestant on the show.
