After wrapping season 19 of Project Runway in early February of 2022, Project Runway All Stars is headed back to our televisions for a milestone 20th season later this week.
If you are new to the show or need a quick reminder on how the episodes run, advanced designers from ALL over the world are chosen to compete in a fashion competition show. Each week, the designers are assigned a WILD theme to inspire their collections ranging from past challenges such as “candy couture” or “fashion farm.”
The viewers watch the designers scramble with the unique materials provided and the intimidating presence of the clock ticking down the time they have to complete their challenges. By the end of the week, models walk the runway in these creations and their work is critiqued by the judges. One designer is eliminated each week while the rest move along in the competition. The finale episode is normally comprised of the top three designers where, in the end, only the top designer will remain.
Each episode is filled with some pretty entertaining catty drama from the whole team and passionate tears from the designers — BUT — all the sweat is worth it in the end as the stunning creations are strutting down the runway.
The season 20 casting is a little different than previous seasons. Instead of the designers being randomly picked internationally, the contestants are comprised of the 14 winners from seasons 1-19 to battle out the crown of top designer.
Returning judges this season include Project Runway season four winner Christian Siriano, along with veteran judges Brandon Maxwell, Elaine Welteroth, and Nina Garcia. Each week, a celebrity guest joins the judging panel, which will include Alicia Silverstone, Lena Waithe, Julia Fox, Billy Porter, Wes Gordon, and Sergio Hudson. Each icon will make an appearance to weigh in their thoughts on your favorite designers’ creations of the week.
