10 Celebs You May (Or May Not) Have Known Were Irish

During St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrate Irish culture – from the special food, to the music and dancing, and, of course, the drinking. But you can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without some of the best Irish celebrities we know and love!

Here at Celeb Secrets, we love our favorite petals, so we compiled a list of our favorite Irish celebs that you may have or may not have known were Irish! So sit back, pour yourself a pint, and put on “On My Own” by Niall Horan as you read through our list of Ireland’s greatest.

Niall Horan

The President of Ireland. No, seriously, the Irish people have literally said they would vote for him as their president. He should be the face of the entire country, if we’re being honest. He’s a singer-songwriter, has a perfect discography, founded his own golf management company, is friends with Tom Holland, and he’s a Virgo. What’s not to love about Niall? He’s even celebrating the holiday with Guinness!

Saoirse Ronan

A talented and beautiful Irish lady who can pull off any role she sets her mind to! From Lady Bird to Mary Queen of Scots, Saoirse has made quite a name for herself here in the states. If we could have a good craic with any of these Irish  natives, she’d be on the top of the list!

Liam Neeson

The proud Irishman has been the leading actor for some of the most iconic films. We know that you’ve seen at least one of his movies in your lifetime, but even if you haven’t, you probably know him anyway because of his iconic lines from the Taken films.

Adam Whitehead

Cillian Murphy

Now this blue-eyed fella has a jawline that could cut your enemies, just like his iconic role of Thomas Shelby in BBC’s Peaky Blinders and recurring role of Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. We could seriously stare into his eyes for days.

Dominique McElligott

A queen in The Boys and an almost-First Lady in House of Cards — both roles to match the elegance that Dominique radiates. She also played the love interest of Matt Bomer in Amazon’s series-adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Last Tycoon. Would you have guessed that she’s Irish?

Jamie Dornan

Yes, you read that right! The infamous Mr. Grey is born and raised in Northern Ireland. Jamie Dornan is a proud Irishman who is also friends with fellow Irishman, Niall Horan. Although the actor is well-known for his sleek and smooth Christian Grey style voice, you’ll swoon over his Irish accent as well!

Bono

This Irish singer entered our Apple Music libraries all those years ago with his band, U2, and we will never forget it (some of us still even have the album)! Bono is an incredible artist as well as a known activist in the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa.

Evanna Lynch

The lovely Luna Lovegood is from the amazing country of Ireland as well! Although she is most known for her curious character in the Harry Potter series, Evanna Lynch is also a writer, activist, and she has her own podcast! Her podcast is called “The Chickpeeps” and it is all about vegans and everything you would like to know about the vegan lifestyle.

Pierce Brosnan

The name is Bond. James Bond. No one else would’ve fit the role better than Pierce Brosnan. He is the perfect archetype for it, there’s a reason why he starred in four of the films. He gives off the same vibes George Clooney does, if you know what I mean.

Aisling Franciosi

You may have seen her only for a glance in Games of Thrones as the older Lyanna Stark but she’s made a huge impression with her role as Clare in the award-winning, Australian film The Nightingale, where she plays an Irish convict seeking revenge for her family. It’s only a matter of time before this Irish gal does big things in American film.
