Memorial Day left a not-so-quiet weekend for A Quiet Place Part II.
The 2018 thriller sequel made $48 million as of Sunday morning according to Variety and is projected to yield over $57 million by Tuesday (June 1.)
This is a positive surprise for industry fanatics who have not seen numbers like this since before the pandemic. While traditional business models have customers going out to the movies, entertainment is welcoming more opportunities for content to come directly to the consumer.
The COVID-19 pandemic certainly encouraged this strategy and has fostered an environment where audiences do not need to venture out to movie theatres. This was done over the past year with the rise of new streaming platforms and online content. It is just one reason for the surprise of A Quiet Place Part II’s theatrical success.

Despite varying restriction levels, the film was able to open at a proportionally successful level to its predecessor.
With a suspenseful ending to Part 1, moviegoers are finally allowed to seek closure. This “louder” sequel follows the Abbott family in the continuation of their silent survival. Sacrifice, selflessness, and family are all takeaways from this month’s blockbuster hit. Although they are only thin beaks of lights within a dark tale, these themes serve as important reminders. Especially considering the events of this last year.
People are eager to incorporate movie-going into their routines again, and this weekend certainly illustrated that it is possible.
