Ally Barron Opens Up About a Former “Tough” Relationship in New Single “What’s Her Number” (Listen)

Ally Barron just dropped her first single of 2021 an we can’t get enough of it!

The singer/songwriter’s new track is titled  “What’s Her Number” and it rides a glossy 808-laden beat towards an unshakable hook as she asks, “What’s her number? She could use a warning about you.”

Penning the track with Tony Ferrari, Barron says “What’s Her Number” was written after a tough relationship, and she opens up to Celeb Secrets about why she wanted to share her experience with her fans in a song.

“I was talking to this guy for a little while and it was time for us to part ways, our lives were clearly going in different directions. It was obvious on social media that he was seeing other girls and it was hard for me to ignore, especially since everyone would send me his posts. My immediate reaction was to become jealous and blame the people he was seeing until I took a step back and realized, what did these girls do to me. Other than fall for the same tricks I did, really what had they done?” she explains to Celeb Secrets in an interview. “So I decided to write a song that not only hypes up other women, but helps them out because that’s what we should be doing. We all get played by the same guys and blame each other because it’s the easiest thing to do and somehow makes us feel better, but realistically we all know it’s not our faults.”

“What’s Her Number” is the first taste of Ally’s debut EP Sincerely, AB, which is expected to drop later this year.

Celeb Secrets: What motivated you to share your relationship experience through “What’s Her Number?”

Ally Barron: “I was talking to this guy for a little while and it was time for us to part ways, our lives were clearly going in different directions. It was obvious on social media that he was seeing other girls and it was hard for me to ignore, especially since everyone would send me his posts. My immediate reaction was to become jealous and blame the people he was seeing until I took a step back and realized, what did these girls do to me. Other than fall for the same tricks I did, really what had they done? So I decided to write a song that not only hypes up other women, but helps them out because that’s what we should be doing. We all get played by the same guys and blame each other because it’s the easiest thing to do and somehow makes us feel better, but realistically we all know it’s not our faults.”

CS: What was the creative process like creating the song?

AB: “The creative process of this song started with me, my co-writer Tony Ferrari and my producer Nick Pingree sitting in the studio. I had just gone through a rough patch with this guy I just mentioned, and I was still heated in the moment explaining my situation. Tony and I just started talking and he really sparked the concept out of nowhere. Nick began to create a beat and that’s when Tony and I’s words started flowing. Before we knew it, the song was done!”

CS: What do you want listeners to take away from the song?

AB: “I want listeners to hear “What’s Her Number” and take away that girls should hype up other girls. Whether a guy cheats on you or completely screws you over, there’s no reason to blame yourself nor the new girl he’s with. We’re all beautiful and amazing in our own ways, we have so much more going for ourselves than a silly little relationship- We can’t let immature boys bring us down. I want girls to remember that we don’t need a boy to make us happy. Being independent may seem scary, but it’s so empowering.”

CS: How did you come up with the concept for the music video?

AB: “Honestly, the music video concept came to me quite naturally after listening to the song on repeat and thinking about what it really meant to me. My goal was to make it dark and grungy since that’s the vision I have in my mind while listening to it. On the other hand, I loved the idea of incorporating vintage shots since the lyrics are a little sassy. I found this old school telephone, and knew I had to highlight it in the video because I keep asking, ‘What’s Her Number?’ After I envisioned the theme, we started filming and everything else just fell into place perfectly. It was so much fun to make, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.”

CS: What can listeners expect from your forthcoming EP?

AB: “Listeners can expect to hear a whole new sound from me. As I got older, I knew I wanted to move out of the extreme bubble pop world, and more into pop R&B because that’s where my voice naturally sits. I finally had the time to make an album that completely represents me and the struggles I’ve gone through since being on the show ‘Malibu Surf.’ Although each song is unique, they still embody my personality, and I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I did creating it!”
