2017 Heisman Trophy Winner Baker Mayfield has officially joined the Los Angeles Rams.
Just one day after being waived by the Carolina Panthers, the 27-year-old quarterback finds himself with the reigning Super Bowl champs and one of the best head coaches in the league in Sean McVay.

With that said, it has been a rocky season for the Rams as the team currently sits at 3-9 on the year amid offensive line troubles and a neck injury to quarterback Matthew Stafford. With Stafford out for the foreseeable future and nothing clicking on offense, Mayfield will receive a tremendous opportunity to show what he can do with such a great offensive mind leading the way in McVay.
The San Francisco 49ers also put in a claim on Mayfield with Jimmy Garoppolo going down with an injury, but their NFC West foes had first dibs on the former Oklahoma star.
Since coming into the league in 2018, Mayfield has faced much criticism for his play on the field, along with his attitude. Mayfield, however, has had some great moments in his five-year career, especially in his time with the Cleveland Browns, including in 2020 when he led the Browns to their first playoff win since 1994 in a 48-37 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Rams next game will be tomorrow against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football, so it is unlikely that Mayfield will make his Rams debut this week with him arriving in Los Angeles on Tuesday night; however, his new head coach did say he believes Mayfield would be capable of playing if asked to.
Sean McVay on Baker Mayfield playing TNF: “It would be unprecedented from my experiences because of everything that a quarterback's asked to do, to bring him in in such a short period of time and have him go out there. I do think that he'd be capable of it if we ask.”

Now, it will be interesting to see if this is just a rest-of-season rental for the Rams or perhaps a long-term move as Matthew Stafford has dealt with neck injuries ever since his time with the Detroit Lions and with him winning a Super Bowl last season, perhaps he would be satisfied with retiring after this season to prevent from an even worse neck injury.
