Titled “Cry Pretty,” the tune speaks to a lot of the things that happened in Carrie’s life and was co-written by Underwood, Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose and Lori McKenna.

“I joined one of their writing sessions last year to see if we could come up with some magic… and we did. The title refers to when emotions take over and you just can’t hold them back,” the country queen shared in a blog post. “It really speaks to a lot of things that have happened in the past year and I hope when you hear it, you can relate those feelings to those times in your life. It’s emotional. It’s real. And it ROCKS!”

When she sings lyrics like “You can pretty lie and say it’s ok / You can pretty smile and just walk away / Pretty much make your way through anything / But you can’t pretty cry,” there’s no hiding that Carrie went through a lot physically and emotionally after the tragic accident.

In addition to the co-write, Carrie teamed up with producer David Garcia to assist in the production process, and she’s super proud of the finished project.

“I’ve always been lucky to have a voice in the writing and recording process, but this is the first time I am this involved in the production of music. It’s been challenging and incredibly rewarding to be involved in every aspect from start to finish. David has been an amazing teacher and partner, and I’m so proud of what we have created,” she shared.

“Cry Pretty” is available now, and you can hear it for the first time LIVE from Carrie performs it at the 53rd ACM Awards this Sunday, April 15th at 8PM ET/PT on CBS.
