ABC has decided to pick up a pilot for a comedy series starring Ellie Kemper.The show is called Drop-Off and is based on the British comedy Motherland.
Drop-off focuses on the life of Julia (played by Kemper), a working single mom struggling to find happiness. Suddenly, Julia meets Calvin Karan Soni) and Liz – these two new people in Julia’s life help her find a healthy balance between parenting, working, and her love life.
As for Kemper, the beloved starlet is known for her role in several iconic shows and movies such as The Office, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Bridesmaids, and most recently, The Great American Baking Show as reported here on Celeb Secrets.

Kemper will be reunited with Paul Feig. Feig directed several episodes of The Office and Bridesmaids, which both star Kemper. While also directing some Melissa McCarthy led-comedies such as The Heat and Spy. As for his role in this upcoming series, Feig will be one of the producers, with the potential of him bringing his directing expertise for a couple episodes of the show.
As for Motherland, this British comedy also centers around a single mom that meets two fellow parents; while adding in the main character’s mother in the show’s second season. As of now, Motherland has three seasons, along with two Christmas specials.
A date has yet to be announced for the release of this ABC comedy.
