Ever since Disney unveiled the trailer for Cruella on February 17, audiences around the globe have been anticipating more news on the unique spinoff from 101 Dalmatians

We haven’t seen a Cruella-themed tribute since our idol Selena Gomez dropped a single titled “Cruella de Vil” way back in March 2008 in support of the 101 Dalmatians platinum edition.

The original film brings back some childhood memories from all the moments we fell in love with an adorable group of pups who successfully managed to escape and find freedom. It’s really no surprise the new Cruella trailer has already garnered over 11-million views and counting.

The trailer leaves us with a sharp pang of curiosity after catapulting us into the twisted and chaotic perspective of Cruella de Vil with a vintage setting that mimics the 1970s. What kind of life events could have possibly triggered such a hateful persona?

Although the response to this villain spotlight has been predominantly positive, some viewers have their rightful doubts about the message a movie like this could send. A few YouTube comments point out that a character with a long history of animal abuse may not be deserving of their own movie–a very fair counterpoint.

“I am a woman, hear me roar,” Cruella says during the trailer.

Are you excited to hear what else Cruella has to say in her own defense on May 26? Or do you think there’s really no good justification for giving a character so cruel a platform of any kind?
