Jenna Ortega has landed the lead role of Wednesday Addams for Netflix’s new series, Wednesday.
Get ready Addams Family fans, because Netflix is coming up with a new series simply titled, Wednesday. The eight-episode series will follow Wednesday Addams as she attempts to master her psychic powers, stop a killing spree, and solve a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago. The series is to be directed by Tim Burton and is written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Ortega shared her excitement for the role by posting a snap on her Instagram with the caption, “New chapter. Hope I can do Wednesday Addams justice. *snaps twice.” Ortega has starred in Jane The Virgin, You, and Disney Channel’s Stuck In The Middle.
Netflix shared the announcement as well today (Wednesday, May 19) with a tweet of Ortega’s Instagram photo and the caption, “Happy Wednesday! @JennaOrtega will play the iconic Wednesday Addams in our upcoming live-action Wednesday series, directed by Tim Burton. Fans were really excited about the announcement by sharing a series of tweets. One fan posted a gif of Wednesday Addams from “The Addams Family” film in 1991. The tweet was captioned, “She got big shoes to fill and I’m rooting for her 100.”

There’s no announcement when the series will be released, but we can assume that they will announce it on a Wednesday.
