Christmas on Cherry Lane narrates three couples celebrating the holiday season while confronting emotional chapters in their lives including a young couple getting ready to welcome a baby, a mother who just became an empty-nester and is starting fresh with her fiancé and a couple who are proposed with the opportunity to welcome a new family member on Christmas Eve.

Bennett plays Mike, a chef who is preparing a holiday dinner of 14 alongside his partner Zian (Vincent Rodriquez III) while their kitchen is being remodeled. The couple are unexpectedly confronted with the chance to expand their family on Christmas Eve and the film sees them navigate this pivotal decision while celebrating the holiday. Bennett sat down with GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos to discuss the film Hallmark’s mission to be more inclusive.

”We all have this idea of what we want Christmas and the holidays to be and then it never works out. It’s never exactly how you plan, but it’s finding about the beauty in the imperfections. It’s a perfectly imperfect Christmas for all these couples.”

Bennett starred as Hallmark’s first gay lead in The Holiday Sitter in 2022, and notes Hallmark’s initiative to become more inclusive to LGBTQ and persons of color.

“I think Hallmark’s mission is making sure that everyone feels like they have a seat at our holiday table because they do,” the television host tells Ramos.

“We are making the yuletide slay at the Hallmark Channel! It is so fun bringing these stories to life on this network, we are just having so much fun creating these characters and creating these stories that include everyone.”

The Food Network’s Halloween Wars’ host says he would love to someday star alongside his husband, Jaymes Vaughan, in a holiday movie.

“I would love to do a Christmas movie with my husband. And even if he’s not my co-star, my husband’s such a talented amazing singer. Wouldn’t it be fun if he played a singer in a Hallmark Christmas movie where we go and watch his performance?”

Bennett is also known for his role as Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls, but unfortunately was unable to attend the recent “reunion” – a Walmart Black Friday commercial – due to filming, but loved seeing Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert reunite.

Christmas on Cherry Lane is being played throughout December on The Hallmark Channel. Scroll down to watch the trailer.
