Luke Hemmings and Sierra Deaton are engaged!
The 5 Seconds of Summer frontrunner shared the news today (June 8) that he popped the big question to his longtime girlfriend, in which she obviously said yes.
“With shaking hands but a full heart I proposed to my best friend earlier this year. I love you Thao and I can’t imagine my life without you,” Hemmings posted on Instagram with a red heart emoji. Deaton posted the same photo on her profile, captioning it, “it was fun keeping this a secret for so long, but my heart is nearly bursting at the seams. can’t wait for forever.”

Hemmings and Deaton connected in February 2018 and dated under the radar before making their relationship public in 2019. In April 2020, the “Youngblood” singer gave listeners an inside look into the pair’s romance with the song “Not In the Same Way” on the band’s latest album Calm, gushing to Paper Magazine about how the track is about his “incredible” girlfriend.
“Well, it’s about me and my current girlfriend, and she’s incredible. Maybe Ashton was there as well, maybe he was writing about someone else, but that’s where I was writing about from,” he said. “She’s a beautiful human. It could be painted in such a… when the worst moments are written on paper, it doesn’t look very good. It was very important that it was the other side of it, because a lot of the mistakes are mine, you know?”

Prior to dating, Luke was in a very public relationship with Arzaylea Rodriguez from 2015 to 2017, while Sierra was in a long-term relationship with her ex, Alex Kinsey, who she made music with under Alex & Sierra. The duo won the third and final season of The X Factor USA, released multiple singles and even toured with well-known artists before announcing the duo’s indefinite hiatus and breakup in 2017.
