When filming season 3 of Outer Banks, Madelyn Cline and her costar ex-boyfriend Chase Stokes managed to maintain their professional demeanor.
After dating for over a year, the pair reunited in February 2022 — only three months after their breakup — to film the hit show’s third season.
And while it may have felt different going into the filming as exes versus partners compared to the previous season, Cline tells PEOPLE that “at the end of the day, there’s always been a safe space with the job.”
“We’ve said from day one, our job is always to leave the show and the season better than when we left it last,” continues the actress, who has been taking over the role as America’s Sweetheart. “And everybody is still very much a family. Outer Banks has always been a family. And I’m just happy that we are able to remain professional.”
Stokes had mutual interests to maintain the same energy.
“Mads and I have been working together now for 30 episodes, and we made a promise to each other before we even started dating that the work was always going to come first,” he told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. “No matter what happens in our personal lives, and the ways that life sometimes takes you in different directions, that we’re always going to honor the work.”
Since their breakup, Cline has been linked to dating singer-songwriter Jackson Guthy while Stokes has confirmed his relationship with country singer Kelsea Ballerini. However, since their very public relationship — which evidently led to rumors of Cline potentionally leaving the show — the two have (for the most part) kept their new flings out of the public eye.
