Mahomes Magic on Full Display as Chiefs beat Bucs in Super Bowl LV Rematch on Sunday Night Football

In a battle of two of the all-time greats, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs went into the site of Super Bowl LV and defeated Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 41-31 in a primetime showdown.

“Mahomes Magic” was the phrase of the game with a brilliant performance by the former Texas Tech QB that included a magical play in which Mahomes avoided multiple defenders, then spun and flipped a pass to running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a score.

Mahomes had a total of 283 yards on the day to go along with three touchdowns and a pick. Something that stands out in this one is the rushing battle between both teams, as the Chiefs completely dominated the department, rushing for 189 yards on the ground, while the Bucs only ran for an abysmal three yards. The Chiefs defense did their part in shutting down the run, which forced Tom Brady to throw the ball 52 times. The Buccaneers must emphasize improving the run game if they want to be in this for the long haul, as having your QB throwing so much early in the season can hurt you later on.

As for Brady, he did have a fantastic game as the 45-year-old gunslinger threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns; he continues to amaze all of us game in and game out, even at this point in his legendary career.

Some other notable performances in this game came from arguably the best tight end in the league, Travis Kelce of the Chiefs; Kelce had nine receptions for 92 yards to go along with a touchdown. A standout performer for the Bucs was wide receiver Mike Evans who had eight catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Both the Chiefs and Bucs have high expectations this season and will continue to battle and find more consistency as the season goes on. The Chiefs host the Raiders in week five on Monday Night Football, while the Buccaneers look to pickup their first home win of the season in an NFC North divisional game against the Atlanta Falcons, in a game which will give the winner sole possession of first place in the division.
