Charli xcx just keeps on giving.
Today (October 11), the budding songstress unveiled a deluxe version of Brat – Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat – including remixes of original tracks and a killer lineup of collaborations, including “Guess” with Billie Eilish, “i think about it all the time” with Bon Iver, “Girl, so confusing” with Lorde, “von dutch a.g. cook remix” featuring Addison Rae, “I might say something stupid” featuring The 1975 and Jon Hopkins and a personal favorite, “Sympathy is a knife” with Ariana Grande.
Charli told New York Magazine about the original song, “That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt.”
The song’s new chorus addresses public scrutiny and has changed for the singer’s new perspective.
“It’s a knife when you know they’re counting on your mistakes / It’s a knife when you’re so pretty, they think you must be fake / It’s a knife when they dissect your body on the front page / It’s a knife when they won’t believe you, why should you explain? / It’s a knife when the mean fans hate the nice fans / When somebody says, “Ari, I think you’ve totally changed” (No s**t)
(It’s a knife) / When somebody says they like the old me and not the new me
And I’m like, “Who the f**k is she?”
