New Music Friday: Ed Sheeran Releases “-” Serving as His Last Album in his Decade of Mathematically Titled Releases

It’s New Music Friday, Ed Sheeran released – (Deluxe), and it’s Cinco De Mayo — pour up the shots!

The highly-anticipated sixth studio album was released today (May 5), and we can assure you that you’re in for a rollercoaster of emotions as it follows along the journey of a man dealing with all the sorrow and confusion he endured throughout the year from his best friend’s death to his wife’s diagnosis with a cancerous tumor while pregnant with their second child.

While some of Sheeran’s success can be attributed to swoon-worthy love songs like “Shape of You,” “Perfect,” and “Thinking Out Loud”—which was the focus of a recent copyright infringement case in which Sheeran was found not guilty of ripping off Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get it On”— “Subtract” is dedicated to a friend’s love and admiration for his marriage.

The record is also a musical representation of a guy who allows his grief to consume him to the point of drowning, only to shoot up for a last-ditch effort to breathe.

“Grief instantly ends your youth,” Sheeran shares in his new Disney+’s docuseries, aEd Sheeran: The Sum of It All in regards to the music he poured out of his heart and soul.

In other words, you can assume you’re in for some cries, loud singing in the shower, and thoughts of calling that one person up! Don’t believe us? Check out the “-” album for yourself now.

However, Ed Sheeran’s final edition to his mathematically titled albums aren’t the only hits on this NMF list that we’re obsessed with! We have had hot new tracks like “Pancakes & Butter” by Jason Mraz, “Big Dumb Heart, Chapter 1″ (EP) by Jenna Raine, “Mississippi Air” by Caroline Romano, “Little Runaway” by Benson Boone, “La Última Canción” by CNCO, “don’t call me pretty” by GAYLE and more on repeat ALL day long.

As if this week’s New Music Friday couldn’t get any better, some of our favorite musicians even teamed up to make musical magic this week, releasing collaborations that are truly unlike any other. Marshello and Brent Faiyaz teamed up for “Fell In Love,” IDK and NLE Choppa for “Salty,” Galantis, JVKE, and Enisa for “Fool 4 U,” Alan Palomo and Mac DeMarco for “Nudista Mundial ’89,” will.I.am and Lil Wayne for “THE FORMULA,” and Anuel AA, DJ Luian and Mambo Kingz for “Mejor Que Yo” and more.

Aside from these incredible singles AND collaborations, some of today’s biggest artists also released albums that we can’t stop streaming. Leon Bridges came out with Good Things (Deluxe), Flume with ARRIVED ANXIOUS LEFT BORED, Future with Beast Mode 3, Destroy Lonely with If Looks Could Kill and more.
