Olivia Wilde was met with a round of applause and legal papers at the trailer premiere for her upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling.
During Las Vegas’ CinemaCon, the director was suddenly caught by surprise when an unidentified woman handed her a manila envelope onstage, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Wilde proceeded to ask the woman, “This for me?”
The outlet reports that Wilde then opened the folder to check what was inside before thanking the woman and continuing with her presentation.
Wilde went on to praise the actors in her film, which stars Florence Pugh and Wilde’s new boyfriend, Harry Styles. After the trailer premiered, the audience applauded the director and the film.
At the time, no one really thought anything of significance had happened with the envelope. Deadline then reported that the mysterious envelope contained legal documents regarding Wilde’s children with ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis. The couple share one son, Otis (8), and one daughter, Daisy Josephine (5).
The public went into a frenzy, wondering why Wilde was served onstage and what this meant for the former couple.
CinemaCon did release a statement regarding the matter saying, “To protect the integrity of our studio partners and the talent, we will reevaluate our security protocols.”
The custody papers have not been unveiled and according to sources from Variety, Sudeikis “had no prior knowledge” that Wilde would be served at CinemaCon.
