The first trailer for the movie Clifford the Big Red Dog, dropped on Tuesday (June 29).
Directed by Walt Becker, the story originates from a children’s book series of the same name written by Norman Bridwell. The cast for the film includes Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, John Cleese, Tony Hale, Keenan Thompson, and David Alan Grier.
In the trailer, we are introduced to a young girl named Emily (Camp) who seems to be struggling with bullies at school. One day, her Uncle Casey (Whitehall) takes her to a magical animal rescue where she finds a red puppy. She adopts the puppy and names him Clifford. As she holds him in bed one night, she cries and says, “I wish you were big and strong and the world couldn’t hurt us.” A tear falls from her cheek and sparkles as it hits Clifford’s face.
The next morning, Emily wakes up and comes face-to-face with Clifford. However, she screams because he has grown to be an immeasurable size! The rest of the trailer shows Emily, Uncle Casey, and Clifford going on all sorts of adventures throughout New York City.
Once the trailer dropped, it immediately started trending on Twitter. People had many opinions on the appearance of the giant CGI dog. One user tweeted, “you know, some things just aren’t meant to translate from animation to live action and clifford is one of them.”

Others think the CGI dog looks endearing. One user said, “everyone hates cgi clifford but hes so stupid looking… hes so goofy… and I love him with all my heart.”

Furthermore, fans of the K-pop group, BTS, are loving the trailer because it features their song, “Dynamite.” One fan said, “first that animated movie using mic drop in the bg of the trailer and now the clifford movie using dynamite >>>>>>”
