The Baker and the Beauty star David Del Rio has been cast in the CBS reboot of Matlock. Del Rio joins legendary actress Kathy Bates amongst others, in the reboot of this classic show.
The original Matlock series began in 1986 with the late-great Andy Griffith at the helm of the show starring as its main character, Ben Matlock. Matlock lasted for nine seasons, and with many actors coming in and out throughout the show’s long run, Griffith remained at the head of the series from beginning to end. Until its last season, Matlock had always been shot in Los Angeles, until the ninth and final season when production was moved to Griffith’s home state of North Carolina to accommodate the aging actor and allow him more time to spend with his family.

As for Del Rio, the Miami-born star has many titles to his credit, including Pitch Perfect, The Baker and the Beauty, Maggie, and the California Christmas Lights movie franchise, to name a few. Del Rio will now take his talents to the rebooted version of an iconic show and portray a recent law school graduate assigned to work on a massive case within his firm; the character’s name is Billy.

To elaborate more on this reboot, it is referred to as a gender-swap version of the original, as Kathy Bates will be the headlining character, just like Griffith. Bates’ character name is Madeline Matlock, and she is an incredible lawyer.
As of recent, Del Rio starred opposite Rebecca Rittenhouse in the Hulu show Maggie. Now, he has the tremendous opportunity of becoming a staple of a heavily-anticipated reboot.
It will be exciting to see what Del Rio can do in this CBS-produced Matlock show.
