Since putting the Internet in a frenzy with the release of his college football-themed anthem “I Hate Alabama,” 22-year-old Conner Smith has been proving that he’s one to watch in country music.
The budding singer/songwriter is raw, authentic and full of passion, as his music focuses on real emotions as well as his love for his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.
This past Friday, Conner released an acoustic version of his hit single “Take It Slow,” featuring co-writer Ryan Hurd. For those who don’t know, “Take It Slow” is a fan-favorite off his debut EP Didn’t Go To Far that has amassed nearly 40 million global streams and and climbing the charts on country radio.
To no surprise, fans are already loving the acoustic rendition of this track, since its stripped-down nature adds an even more emotional aspect to its already heartfelt lyrics. It’s just a glimpse into the music that Smith has been working on lately, and Celeb Secrets reporter Melanie Rooten asked the 22-year-old more about how the writing process has been so far.
The country crooner explained to us that “[he] spent a decade of [his] life writing songs every day by [himself],” and since then, he writes songs in a group environment. According to Smith, “In a writing room where we’re getting creative… I’m rarely just sitting down.”
While his role in the creative process may have shifted over time, he has been on the rise and creating tracks that are better than ever!

In addition to revealing more about the process behind writing hit after hit, Smith shared who inspires these tracks. While we expected him to pinpoint some of his inspirations as people he aspires to be like musically, Smith told us that the artists he looks up to are “people that have just been really kind to [him].”
For example, he said, “Cole Swindell has been such a cool dude to me. He’s just been another one of those guys that is so intentional about just checking in on me, seeing how I’m doing, speaking wisdom into what this industry is… It’s just cool to see that these people that I’ve looked up to are just good human beings.”
Even this simple response to our question helped give Celeb Secrets a glimpse into Smith’s incredibly genuine, kindhearted personality, which truly does translate into his music.
We can’t wait until Smith releases even more hit songs, but until then, listen to “Take It Slow (Acoustic)” below and let us know what you think by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.
