The Sacramento Kings have added another piece to their young nucleus as the team traded for young forward Kessler Edwards from the Brooklyn Nets.
Edwards has shown much promise in his first two seasons, but the Nets have an overload at his position, so they decided to move on and will now have an extra roster spot to work with just days ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.

The Nets drafted Edwards with the 44th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Edwards is a tremendous defender with some rawness on the offensive side of the ball; he has shown some flashes in his young NBA career, but it seems as if the Nets are content with the forwards on their roster, which includes Kevin Durant, Royce O’Neal, the scorching hot Cam Thomas, and the recently acquired Dorian Finney-Smith.
This move makes sense for Brooklyn because of the overload at that spot; therefore, by moving Edwards, the Nets will now have the opportunity to try and bring someone in at a position of need, such as center. The starting center of the Nets is Nick Claxton, who has had a great season but other than that, there is little depth at the position, so perhaps the Nets try to take a chance on a veteran like Dewayne Dedmon or Andre Drummond.
Dedmon was traded today from the Heat to the Spurs but is likely to be bought out by San Antonio as they do not need a veteran center, so maybe Brooklyn can take a chance on him. As for Drummond, the big man is currently on the roster of a team involved in many trade rumors in the Chicago Bulls, so that can be another option for the Nets as Drummond has familiarity with the organization after being a member of the squad a season ago.
Edwards will now join a Kings team that is on the rise after many years of having no success; Sacramento has had a very competitive season led by young stars De’Aaron Fox and Domontas Sabonis.

All in all, this move may only catch the attention of some, but Edwards may end up being a sneaky good pickup for the Kings.
