Scottie Scheffler Wins 2022 Masters, Tiger Woods Falls Short

The 2022 Masters have come and gone, and the winner is: Scottie Scheffler!

That’s right, the winner is, in fact, not Tiger Woods. Despite putting up an impressive effort, Woods was unable to add a sixth Masters championship to his resume, finishing in 47th place. Woods finished 23 points behind Scheffler at 13 over par.

The 25-year-old champion Scheffler dominated the course, with 71 in the final round resulting in a 10-under-par finish. This was three strokes better than the second-place golfer Rory McIlroy.

“The front nine was such a grind,” Scheffler said on Friday, when he began to take the lead. “The wind was crazy. There was some times where we saw the sand blowing up out of the bunkers out there. It was ridiculous.”

Woods’ struggles towards the end of the event became apparent, as he was seen limping slightly on the leg he injured in a devastating car accident last year. When asked how much pain he was in, the golf legend simply replied with “uh-huh”, accompanied by a smirk. But Woods expressed his gratitude and thankfulness towards recovery and even being able to tee off again.

“It’s been a tough road,” Woods said. “And one that I’m very thankful to have the opportunity to be able to grind through it. A lot of different things could have happened, but 14 months [after the accident], I’m able to tee it up and play in the Masters.”

“You can just tell that his leg is just not quite up there yet,” fellow golfer and partner of Woods, Jon Rahm, said. “He is limping on the course. Obviously, he is trying very hard to play, but it’s not easy to walk up and down those hills…It won’t be as long, and I believe he’ll be able to contend.”
