‘The Bachelorette’ Season 19 Episode 5 Recap: Rachel Makes An Unexpected Choice

The Romantic One-on-One Dates

Aven and Rachel embark on their one-on-one time, starting with wine and an appetizer looking over scenic views. Rachel confesses that she feels safe with Aven and wants to ensure that her feelings about Aven are mutual.

The “couple” makeout while discussing their zodiac signs during their horseback ride. Rachel gushes about Aven, making her feel secure and wanted. Later in the evening, over dinner, Aven gifts Rachel with a bracelet his mother made, eager to turn Rachel’s experience around, while Rachel gifts him with a one-on-one rose.

Meanwhile, Johnny runs to Gabby during their one-on-one date, picking her up and kissing her before going to a beer farm. The two also soak in a beer tub while expressing their fun and silly sides. Gabby appreciates Johnny’s vulnerability, committing to the “craziness” of the date so far.  Over dinner, Johnny explains why he is so guarded, having had his ex-girlfriend disappear from him. Gabby reassures him that he has much to feel confident about despite his experience with low self-esteem and depression, telling him that he brings out a side of her that she appreciates.

Logan later apologizes to Rachel’s team about his decision impacting the group date, hoping the men understand his decision despite that. The two ladies later join the men, dressed in evening gowns, as Rachel apologizes for the time her team has lost while Gabby officiates a toast to having a great night.
