It’s finally happening! Since 2021, fans have heard rumor after rumor about Timothée Chalamet *potentially* becoming the next Willy Wonka. But today (July 11) their guesses were confirmed and excitement was unleashed for a sugar overload thanks to the release of the brand-new trailer.
Known for his heroic role co-starring in Dune with Zendaya and playing the protagonist’s Saoirse Ronan, love interest in Lady Bird, the 27-year-old landed the part of the iconic Willy Wonka in Warner Bros. Pictures’ rendition of Wonka.
Unlike the 1971 original, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, starring the great Gene Wilder, Wonka focuses more on the prequel life of Willy Wonka before he was the greatest chocolatier that ever lived. Chalamet will star alongside a talented cast of actors including Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan Michael-Key and Olivia Colman, making this flick one you don’t want to miss.
In the two minute and thirty second trailer for Wonka, fans get a taste of how Willy Wonka became the greatest chocolatier that ever lived, as there’s a “Discover how Willy became Wonka” quote featured across the screen. The viewer sees how Wonka overcame the trial and errors of his chocolate to eventually perfecting the well-known Wonka bar.
With scenes of Chalamet traveling by ship, meeting new people, and even running away from a giraffe at one-point, this movie is all about adventure and courage. The twinkle in Timothée’s eye from start to finish makes this classic story come to life.
