The Boston Red Sox picked up a nice veteran bat via free agency on Wednesday morning (January 18) as the team signed 2016 All-Star Adam Duvall to a one-year deal worth $7 million with a chance of boosting up the money to $10 million, with specific performance bonuses being achieved, according to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald.

Duvall is going into his tenth season in the league after spending the past few seasons as a member of the Atlanta Braves, in which he won a World Series ring in 2021. Duvall was one of several players acquired by the Braves in the 2021 MLB trade deadline that helped elevate the ball club and led them to become the champions of the baseball world.

Duvall’s strength on the offensive side of his game is his ability to hit for power, as the 34-year-old outfielder has combined to hit 66 home runs since the 2020 season.
The Red Sox have had an interesting offseason as the team has lost some depth in their starting pitching rotation but has added some veteran bats in the likes of guys like Duvall and long-time Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner. With that said, Boston now has a lineup full of young players like Tristan Casas and veteran bats like Duvall, so a lineup of mixed ages may be a strategy that works out for Alex Cora and co.
As for what Red Sox fans can expect from Duvall, he gives it his all game in and game out; he’s a very smart batter with lots of power and plays great in the outfield as he knows how to track down fly balls precisely and has a solid arm in which he can throw some guys out with.
All in all, this is set to be one of the most underrated moves of the offseason as Duvall is not a big name, but with him now being part of such a watched franchise, perhaps people will finally give him the respect he deserves.
