A “Wicked” Movie MAY Be Happening And Here’s Who Would Be in Our Dream Cast

Doctor Dillamond – Originated by William Youmans

Chad Jennings has played Doctor Dillamond during the run of “Wicked,” and Broadway leading men Neil Patrick Harris (L), Lin-Manuel Miranda (M) or Matthew Morrison (R) would be fine fits. | Photo Credits (L-R): Joan Marcus, Amy Sussman/Getty Images, Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images and Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images

The only animal teacher at Shiz, Doctor Dillamond has a small but vital role in the musical. A veteran actor of the stage, William Youmans has continued to perform in a number of shows including Billy Elliot, Bright Star and Carousel. Before the COVID-19 pandemic shut Broadway down, he was starring in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Neil Patrick Harris seems like he was born to play this role. The How I Met Your Mother actor has an extensive theatre background and even won a Tony for going great lengths in hair and makeup for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It would be fun to see him take on this role and be a mentor for Elphaba.

Not that it is a bad thing, but it seems like we cannot escape Lin-Manuel Miranda these days. His many moments of hesitation as Alexander Hamilton in Hamilton could prove well for the curious Doctor Dillamond. His star power may be akin to Hathaway’s Les Misérables performance (big name with little screentime), but we would not complain.

Finally, this may prove controversial but maybe Matthew Morrison? Though his once-popular role on Glee is now taking a darker turn on TikTok, he has the musical theatre experience needed. And he is not afraid to go great lengths to transform for a role as seen in Dr. Seuss’ the Grinch Musical.
