Cody Belew Confirms That His Music ‘Is Not About Trucks and Beer’ (Exclusive)

Cody Belew has officially made his ✨aqua✨ carpet debut!

The budding country star stepped out in style at the 2023 CMT Music Awards on Sunday, April 2nd, wearing arguably the most stunning look of the night.

The talented singer-songwriter wore an “eye-catching navy satin three-piece bib suit by Nashville-based designer Andrew Clancey,” ultimately highlighting his Southern roots and bold style, as well as hinting at the kind of music he tends to create.

On the beloved aqua carpet at at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder got to chat with Belew himself, where he shared a little bit about his unique musical style, as well as ALL of the exciting things he has in the works.

Cody Belew is truly on the rise within the country music space, serving as a part of CMT’s “Listen Up” program for 2023 alongside Ashley Cooke, Bailey Zimmerman, Brandon Ratcliff, Catie Offerman, Chapel Hart, Conner Smith, Corey Kent, Dalton Dover, Drake Milligan, Hannah Ellis, Ian Munsick, Jackson Dean, Kameron Marlowe, Madeline Edwards, Nate Smith, Pillbox Patti, The War And Treaty, Warren Zeiders and Zach Bryan.

Even though Belew is a part of such a star-studded lineup, his music is unlike anything we’ve heard within country music before, allowing him to stand out within the “Listen Up” class of 2023.

“My music is not about trucks and beer,” the Nashville-based artist shared with Schroder. “If you can’t tell by looking at me, it’s more about my activism and my love of the south, but also holding the south accountable for being ugly a lot of the time, especially now.”

The rising country star plans to keep spreading these powerful messages with “a full LP coming out in the end of the summer,” and we seriously can’t wait 🙌

The first glimpse into this highly-anticipated project will be he his single “Charlene” dropping on May 9th. “The stirring single, which was inspired by Belew’s experiences of being a gay Christian man in the South, will deliver a powerful and timely message, particularly amid today’s divisive political climate,” and we already know it will be a smash hit.

Aside from upcoming music, Cody Belew has TONS of live performances on the way!

After completing a yearlong, sold-out residency at Nashville’s legendary Lipstick Lounge, “I had a teaser show, more of an audition I guess, last Saturday at this new club in Nashville called The Eighth Room — it’s very, very swanky,” Belew shared.

“I wanted to book out the year there, and they were like, ‘We’re gonna give you a date and see,'” he continued. “By the time I finished my last song, they were like, ‘You have to be here every month. No question,’ but I’m gonna be once a quarter there, and then leave space open.”

Aside from his shows at The Eighth Room, Belew has plans to perform at Live in the Vineyard in Napa, California at the end of April, and the rest is still a mystery!

We can’t wait to catch a Cody Belew live show in the near future, but until then, be sure to check out our full interview with him from the 2023 CMT Music Awards below.
