Georgia Football Goes Back To Back in 65-7 National Championship Game Rout of TCU

The University of Georgia Football Team made history on Monday night (January 9) after becoming the first team since the University of Alabama in 2012 to win back-to-back national championships.

The Bulldogs manhandled and annihilated the TCU Horned Frogs 65-7.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett led the way for the Bulldogs on offense as the former walk-on finished the game with six total touchdowns, which tied Joe Burrow in 2020 for the most touchdowns in a BCS/CFP National Championship game and was named the Offensive MVP of the contest.

Bennett’s six touchdowns consisted of four through the air and two on the ground while also adding 304 passing yards and 39 rushing yards. Georgia’s two leading receivers on the day were tight end Brock Bowers who finished with seven catches for 152 yards and a score, and Ladd McConkey, who had five receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Something of note involving Bowers and McConkey; these two phenoms are sophomores which means they still have to play another season to be eligible to enter the NFL Draft. Therefore, the future for Georgia is very bright.

Also joining the touchdown club for the Bulldogs was another sophomore, wideout Adonai Mitchell, who finished with a 22-yard touchdown catch. Now, switching gears to the run game for Georgia, joining Bennett in the ground game TD club was freshman tailback Branson Robinson and junior Kendall Milton; the duo combined for 75 yards and three touchdowns.

To move on to the defense, sophomore defensive back Javon Bullard, who was awarded the Defensive MVP of the game, finished the win with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Georgia’s leading tacklers were a pair of sophomores, Smael Mondon Jr. and Jamon Dumas-Johnson; the pair combined for nine tackles in the game. Someone who caught the eye of fans watching worldwide was true freshman defensive lineman Bear Alexander; Alexander’s moments were those of extra exceptional players. The young star finished the title game with two tackles, two tackles for loss, and a big-time sack on TCU quarterback Max Dugan.

All in all, it was just a complete domination by the Kirby Smart-led Georgia Bulldogs, and this program has now cemented itself as the powerhouse of college football. With that said, much respect should be shown to TCU after an unthinkable season by a team that started the season off as an unranked team.
