In Honor of Lana Del Rey’s 36th Birthday, We Ranked Our Top 10 Favorite Songs

Lana Del Rey turns 36 today!

The indie pop queen is the epitome of being young, wild and free, and over the years, she’s blessed us with a catalog of music that gives us themes of fearlessness and nostalgia.

The Celeb Secrets team are huge fans of Lana and can’t wait to see her live when the world opens back up again. But for now, we’re putting together a list of our ten favorite songs from the chart topping singer to celebrate her day.

Let us know how much you love Lana Del Rey by leaving a reaction down below or by sending her a birthday message on Twitter and Instagram.

#1 – “Born To Die”

“Born To Die” may simply be Lana’s claim to fame. The 2012 single nodded to the American dream and a Bonnie & Clyde type of love affair.

#2 – “Ride”

Seen as a testimony to Lana’s life, “Ride” addresses dark topics like alcohol abuse, loneliness and parental problems. But among all this, the 36-year-old chooses to “just ride” and live her life as a work of art.

#3 – “Ultraviolence”

“Ultraviolence” explores love and pain and the struggle between the two. Fans believe the man “Jim” who Del Rey sings of is a cult leader and he has control over her emotions. It’s the violins and harmonies in this one that really stand out to us.

#4 – “West Coast”

One of Lana’s common themes in all of her music is a love for the west coast and the freedom that comes with it. The song alludes to a “high” that she can only get from one person; she’s basically addicted. It’s a fairytale about a back and forth between love and ambition.

#5 – Terrence Loves You

Lana sings, “I lost myself when I lost you” in this moving ballad. There’s a man that Lana desires but she can’t change him. The slow piano and jazz influence will leave you wanting to dance in someone’s arms. Let’s also not forget the David Bowie reference — iconic.

#6 – “Cherry”

You know that one person who just gets you, your desires, and needs? Well “Cherry” is about that person. In this single, Del Rey sings, “Darling, Darling, Darling, I fall to pieces when I’m with you.” This is a toxic relationship Lana is talking about and no matter how much this man hurts her, she can’t seem to let him go.

#7 – Lust for Life

Del Rey has very few collaborations, but “Lust for Life” with The Weeknd was by far one of the best. In the title track of her fifth studio album, the two singers speak of climbing up the “H” of the Hollywood sign. It’s about the excitement that comes with being in love, giving you a “lust for life.”

#8 – All of Norman F***ing Rockwell

It’s simply impossible and quite frankly rude to even try to pick the best songs off Norman F***ing Rockwell, so this is an honor to them all. From the title track to “Mariners Apartment Complex” to “Love Song,” all the way to “Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it,” the most intricate love story is told. When listening to this album, you don’t know whether you want to laugh or cry — and trust me I’ve done both.

#9 – Let Me Love You Like a Woman

Featured on her latest album Chemtrails Over The Country Club“Let Me Love You Like a Womanflows with simple chords. She sings about moving out of LA, but needing her love to come with her so she can be happy. While she seeks to tend to her partner and hold them “like a baby,” she also needs her own freedom and time to shine.

#10 – Blue Banisters

”Blue Banisters” is one of the three lead singles and the title track of her upcoming album Blue Banisters, out July 4. This is not one of those songs you can just play — you have to listen to every lyric to understand the story she is telling of her relationship troubles and friends who hold her up.
