Mac Demarco is here with a new album — with a twist!

The Canadian singer-songwriter has put forth a new full-length project — an album that consists of over 9 hours worth of music. One Wayne G features a wide array of demos, ranging from smooth snazzy instrumentals to harmonious acoustic recordings. The majority of the titles for the tracks are consistent with dates, most likely dates that they were written/recorded.

Pitchfork noted that the title appears to be a tribute to Wayne Gretzky, a legendary player of the Edmonton Oilers, known for wearing the number 99. DeMarco was raised in Edmonton, where Gretzky carried the Oilers to four hockey championships during the ’80s. During the finalizing of the album, Mac’s Record Label had posted two photos of the legendary player to its Instagram stories, with one of them having a caption saying “There is only One Wayne G.”

DeMarco is most commonly known for his critically acclaimed tracks “Chamber of Reflection“, “My Kind of Woman” and “Freaking Out the Neighborhood,” off of his albums Salad Days and 2. The artist has received a massive amount of praise over the years and has had the opportunity to work with several notable artists — Yellow Days, The Garden, Jean Dawson, DOMi & JD BECK just to name a few.

One Wayne G is a follow-up to DeMarco‘s 2022 instrumental album, Five Easy Hot Dogs. In support of this album, he will be embarking on a four city tour beginning in July, the cities being Los Angeles, New York, London and Paris. You can find tickets here.
