Olivia Rodrigo Goes Number One Again + How Previous “HSM” Stars Music Careers Fared

It’s official! Olivia Rodrigo’s breakup banger “good 4 u” is her second number one on the Billboard charts after “drivers license” spent eight weeks at number one after it debuted in January.

The song had perfect timing. She announced the single on the day that ex-Joshua Bassett maybe came out and released it on the day that the second season of her Disney+ show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered. It also built a final wave of momentum for her debut album SOUR, which was released a week later and is expected to chart highly on the Billboard 200.

Without question, Rodrigo is already the most successful musician to come out of the High School Musical franchise, including those from the original movies. And I think we can thank TikTok for that. Both of her number one songs plus “deja vu,” which has peaked at number eight on Billboard charts, have become viral sounds on the app and we are already seeing more of her songs start to trend there.

When SOUR was released this past Friday, Rodrigo was the most streamed artist on Spotify. She and Ariana Grande (with her album thank u, next) are the only female artists ever to place all their tracks in the top 20 of the Global, US and UK Spotify charts. And with “good 4 u” just placing within the Top 10 on Billboard, she is the first artist in history to debut their first three singles in the top 10.

All we can say is good for her. Rodrigo is killing the game and all before she turns 19. We cannot wait to see what the future brings her but for now, we wanted to take a look back at the original cast of High School Musical to see how their musical careers did.
