Robert Pattinson Makes Huge Transformation for GQ March 2022 Cover

Robert Pattinson stole our hearts after playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, and now he’ll become our favorite hero as the Dark Knight.

When covering GQs March 2022 issue, Pattinson gave details on his upcoming role as “The Batman” in the film directed by Matt Reeves.

It was definitely a dark path creating the film as certain obstacles got in the way of production which was mostly in Pattinson’s favor.

Before the COVID-19 outbreaks began, filming of The Batman had already begun in late 2019 until Pattinson broke his wrist while doing a stunt. With him being the main character of the film, production couldn’t continue, and was forced to take a break.

“So the whole first section was trying to keep working out—looking like a penguin,” he tells GQ.  “I remember when that seemed like the worst thing that could go wrong.”

It wouldn’t be the only obstacle put on the filming process. All productions were forced to shut down their projects due to the global pandemic. As soon as production was given the green light in  September 2020 to return onset and continue filming, Pattinson tested positive for the virus. Once again, filming would be paused.

Filming took up to 18-months to complete which led to him realizing it was for the best since his mind was occupied. While others were left with no jobs due to the pandemic causing businesses to shut down, Pattinson felt lucky enough to be playing his huge role yet, as “The Batman.”

“Everyone I know, if you had a little momentum going in your career or your life, then stopping, you had to have a reckoning with yourself,” he tells GQ. “Whereas I was so incredibly busy the whole time, doing something that was also super high pressure, by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done…”

He made it quite clear that even heroes get a bit too tired, especially with long hours wearing a suit. Being the Dark Knight involved filming at night which made Pattinson feel quite lonely. Despite wearing such an amazing suit, he felt separated from the world since he couldn’t leave the studio with it on. A small tent was created for him, where he found ways to entertain himself such as making ‘ambient electronic music.’ He described the mask (which Pattinson arguably called the cowl) of the suit as being difficult which required him to lean a bit forward when he wanted to see or read a book.

The Batman was finalized in April which should have felt liberating to the actor. Instead, he claims he felt quite exhausted.

“I mean, I was reallyreallyreally dead afterward,” said Pattinson. “I just looked at a photo of myself from April and I looked green.”

Reeves, director of the film refers to Pattinson as a ‘chameleon’ since he does a good job of transforming into multiple characters while still being himself.

“Recently, Rob was telling me that he never plays a character with exactly his voice. The voice is one of his ways in.”

According to Forbes, Warner Bros. shares that the March 1 IMAX-specific preview screenings to The Batman are already sold out. The movie will release in theatres on March 4 but tickets will go on sale starting February 10 (tomorrow).
