Saturday Night Live’s ratings have continually decreased within the past several years; however, this past Saturday’s episode with host Aubrey Plaza and musical guest Sam Smith became the show’s most-viewed episode of season 48.
Plaza’s connection with SNL has been around for a while as The White Lotus star was once an NBC page. An NBC page is someone in charge of giving tours of the NBC building in NYC where shows such as SNL and The Tonight Show take place. Therefore, Plaza’s ability to be an SNL host years after working in that building should inspire all to never give up on their dreams and do what they are passionate about.
Besides being the most watched host of the season, Plaza was just flat-out impressive with her opening monologue, the multiple skits she was part of, and of course, the reprisal of her role of April Ludgate; Ludgate was the character Plaza portrayed in the hit NBC workplace comedy, Parks & Rec.

Aubrey brought feelings of nostalgia when she appeared as that iconic character alongside her former co-star Amy Poehler who acted as Leslie Knope; Plaza and Poehler portrayed their roles in SNL’s Weekend Update segment, which Colin Jost and Michael Che host.
Also doing a fantastic job was musical guest Sam Smith. Smith performed multiple songs and brought numerous, special guests, including pop star Kim Petras for their hit song, “Unholy.”
Also joining Smith in another performance was the iconic Share Stone; Stone looked absolutely incredible as she acted during Smith’s rendition of “Gloria.” The legendary actress also took part in a sketch with Plaza and played her mother in it.
All in all, this was a memorable episode of SNL and was loved by millions watching around the world, as shown in the ratings.
