New York Yankees Star Outfielder Aaron Judge is on pace to hit the most home runs in a single season by an American League Player. On Tuesday, September 13th, Judge smacked home run 56 and home run 57 of the season out of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.
The most home runs in a single season by an American League player goes back to 1961 when former Yankees All-Star outfielder Roger Maris hit 61 long balls. With 19 games and five home runs to beat Maris’ record, Judge is well on pace to hit more than 61 home runs. Amazingly, a current Yankee great is going after a record set by a former Yankee great; the Yankees have such long success, including winning 27 World Series Championships; this should come as no surprise as they have had some of the greatest players in the game from generation to generation.
During Judge’s masterful performance in Boston, the crowd started chanting “MVP” during one of his at-bats. The fact that the fans of the utter rival of the Yankees are cheering for Judge shows his significant impact on the game this season. Something else of note is that Judge is set to become a free agent following this season after not being able to agree to an extension with the Bronx Bombers before the season.

If Judge somehow ends up in a Red Sox uniform, could it be this generation’s Babe Ruth trade? Back in 1920, the Red Sox sent arguably the greatest player in the game’s history to the Yanks, and the rest is history.
It will be exciting to watch if Judge can continue his unstoppable play into the postseason with the Yankees currently at the top of the AL East and with the playoffs starting next month.
