Cameron Hardy Talks Covering Selena Gomez and Teases Upcoming Music

Pop newcomer Cameron Hardy is taking on Selena Gomez in his latest cover video and we’re absolutely loving it!

The singer/songwriter stripped the song down to show off his killer vocals.

“I wanted to cover this song because I felt an instant connection to the energy of it. It has a different sound, but it’s still pop… which I love. It was so fun to put my own acoustic spin on it,” Hardy told us.

For those of you who don’t know Cameron, you will soon. The budding artist has been coaching with Adriana McPhee (Katherine McPhee’s sister and American Idol vocal coach) who he still works with on a regular basis to create his own sound and his voice and talent has evolved as have his relationships within the music industry. Cameron has been in the studio off and on over the years working with tastemakers such as Ghian Wright (Grammy nominated producer who has worked with John Legend, Colbie Caillat, Selena Gomez, Paul McCartney, etc.).

While Cameron has mostly been using his talents to cover hit pop songs, he is working on original music of the same genre and looks forward to sharing these songs with music enthusiasts in the near future. Celeb Secrets caught up with Hardy recently to talk about working with such talented producers, his covers, and what we can expect from his original music.

CS: When did you realize you wanted to pursue music?

CH: “I’ve always been in love with the idea of being an entertainer. I remember when I was 5 years old, I asked my parents to sign me up to be a pop star, as if it was as simple as signing up to play soccer. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. During my early teen years, I started experimenting with music through vocal lessons and working with producers in different studios. I knew right away that it was something I wanted to pursue professionally.”

CS: You work with a lot of A-list producers. What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?

CH: “I absolutely love being in the studio. Every project is different, but I typically begin the session by collaborating with the producers and engineers to form an outline of the project we are working on. Then I get in the booth, record my vocals and later make adjustments until I’m happy with the sound.”

CS: What’s the best advice you’ve received from working with your producers?

CH: “Some of the best advice I have been given is to put your all into optimism. Good attracts good, and bad attracts bad. I always try to keep a positive mind set when it comes to music, as well as my life in general.”

CS: You are covering Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” for your newest video — are you a Selena fan? What made you want to cover “Bad Liar?”

CH: “I really do admire Selena. I think she is a great artist and a very strong person. I wanted to cover this song because I felt an instant connection to the energy of it. It has a different sound, but it’s still pop… which I love. It was so fun to put my own acoustic spin on it.”

CS: If you could cover any other songs, which ones would you like to cover?

CH: “I actually have a couple of covers that I’m finishing up, so look out for those!”

CS: Are you working on any original music? If so, what can you tease about it?

CH: “I am! Finding my sound has been a process, but I finally know the direction of where I want my original music to go. It’s definitely pop, but unique. I am really excited to start this new endeavor of mine and dive into the process of writing and producing from scratch.”

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, what’s a secret or fun fact about you that people don’t know?

CH: “I’ve seen one of my musical inspirations, Ariana Grande, in concert over 5 times… Some might say I’m obsessed, but I like to say that I’m dedicated.”
