Anitta made history Sunday night (August 28th) at the 2022 MTV VMAs.
The Latin superstar took home the award for “Best Latin Artist,” making her the first Brazilian solo singer to do so.
The history-making moment comes shortly after becoming the first Brazilian to top Spotify’s Daily Global Chart for her song “Envolver,” which also has reached over 300 million views on YouTube.
Model Ashley Graham presented the award before the 29-year-old took to the stage in an asymmetrical, sultry-red corset dress with a nipple cover from Schiaparelli Haute Cotoure’s Fall/Winter 2022 line.
Upon receiving her award, the “Girl From Rio” singer said, “I just want to say for whoever doesn’t know this…it’s the first time my country has ever been in an award like this, and I just want to say thank you to my family and my fans. Tonight I performed here a rhythm that for many years in my country was considered a crime… for whoever was born there, we would never think this is possible, so thank you so much.”
MTV also crowned Anitta for having the sexiest performance of the night, stating that although you may think of Madonna’s performance of “Like A Virgin” at the very first VMAs or even Normani’s sensual portrayal of her single, “Wild Side” at last year’s ceremony as two memorable, sexy VMA moments, after tonight, Anitta might be the next contender to be “added to the list.”
