Zendaya Makes History Winning Second Emmy For “Euphoria”

Zendaya snagged an Emmy on Monday night (September 12), making history for winning best lead actress in a drama series category for Euphoria.

This isn’t the first time the twenty-four-year-old has won an Emmy for her groundbreaking role as Rue in the HBO hit teen series, having one the same award in 2020. The actress’ win makes history, becoming the youngest actress and producer to win twice in the division.

Zendaya’s win is no surprise after playing the difficult character. For two seasons, fans of the show have seen Rue battle addiction, rehab, withdrawals, and face an intervention from her friends and family in season two while navigating teenage life. Zendaya accepted her award, telling the audience,

“This means so much… to all the incredible actresses in this category, I’m so honored to be beside you. Thank you to the incredible cast and crew of Euphoria, thank you for making such a safe space to make this very difficult show; I love you all so much. Thank you to the Academy, thank you to my friends, and family, some who which are here tonight. Thank you to Sam for sharing Rue with me, thank you for believing in me, even in moments when I didn’t believe in myself.”

“Lastly… my greatest wish for Euphoria was that it could help heal people… I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are a Rue, I want you to know that I am so grateful for your stories, and I carry them with me, and I carry them with her, so, thank you so much.”

The Euphoria star stunned on the red carpet, wearing a black strapless Valentino gown, detailed with a bow tie as a belt buckle, cinching the top of the black-tie look, making for a dramatic, full skirt.

Zandaya’s win is a positive turn for the series, having been in the news recently for its alleged behind-the-scenes drama. Barbie Ferreira left the cast last month after playing Kat Hernandez for two seasons, announcing her departure via Instagram.
